Strategy becomes useful when it changes decisions. A strong strategy clarifies where an organization will focus, what it will deliberately not pursue, which capabilities matter most and how resources will move toward priorities.
Leaders can pressure-test a strategy with five questions: What is the ambition? Where will we play? How will we win? What capabilities must change? How will we measure progress?
The output should be a small set of choices that can guide operating plans, investment decisions and leadership attention—not a document that sits on a shelf.
